Ringing in the New Year With
Cover Model Amber C Williams

As Head of Model Recruitment, I have the distinct pleasure to interview IndieStreet’s featured models. This week I’ve had the opportunity to sit down with Amber C Williams. Ms. Williams is a young model, originally from Macomb, Illinois and currently residing in Bowie, Maryland. Read on to find out more about this 23 year old beauty…

SB: I notice you come from a large family of boys. What was it like being the baby girl and would you consider yourself a “tomboy”?

AW: Well when I was younger I got picked on a lot by my brothers and they use to drive me crazy. I do kind of think of myself being a tomboy. I didn't start wearing dresses until I was a Jr. in high school. I am the type of female who likes to sit down on Sundays at watch football all day. I like to go to games too.

SB: I know that your mom was a model? What kind of work did she do and how influential was she in your becoming a model?

AW: Yes she was. She used to model in her early twenties. She did some print work and fashion shows which I did with her some times. She would wear a wedding dress and I would be the flower girl for most of the shows we did.

SB: How did she react when you told her you wanted to follow in her footsteps?

AW: When I told her that I wanted to get into modeling she was all for it. We tried to get me into it in high school, but it didn't work out too well. So I just kept it in the back of my mind and moved forward. It wasn't until about a year ago when I really started to go after it. I decided that it was better for me to wait until it was closer to graduation. My mother thought that was the best plan for me.

SB: From a model’s perspective, what do you think of Tyra Banks’ show America’s Next Top Model?

AW: Ya know, I don't get to watch it too much. But from what I have seen it is a great show. I really admire Tyra Banks. It is always nice to see another woman of color making it big in the industry. I think that it is a good way for up coming models to get exposure. And it also shows girls that have dreams of becoming a modeling what it takes to be successful in the industry.

SB: You’re a gorgeous girl, obviously in great shape. What do you to keep yourself healthy and your body tight?

AW: Thank you. Well I workout Monday through Friday during my lunch break. I don't drink any carbonated drinks. I rarely eat fast food. I do have a sweet tooth though I try to stay away from sweets but it doesn't always work. But I pretty much try my hardest to stay healthy and continued to workout on a regular basis.

SB: I understand you have a degree in Sports Management with a Minor in Marketing from Indiana State University. What is your ultimate career goal and how does your modeling career fit into that?

AW: Well my ultimate career goal to is to work for an NFL team on the marketing side of things. As far as my modeling career goes I am putting that first for now. Professional sports is an extremely hard field to get into. I got my foot in the door a little bit with my internship that I had with the Baltimore Ravens this past summer. So at least I do have that experience in my background. I am going to keep trying to get a job with a pro team.

SB: Would you like to get into videos? Whose videos would you like to be in and why?

AW: That's a good one, well right now I would just be happy to be in any video. But if I had to choose it would definitely have to be an Usher video. He is my favorite R&B male singer. I have been listening to him since his first album. I never get tried of listening to him.

SB: Are there any photographers you would like to work with?

AW: You know I have never really thought of that.

SB: Have you found any difference between the modeling world (i.e. work availability, demand) of Indianapolis vs. Maryland?

AW: Yes there is a huge difference between Indiana and Maryland. Back in Indianapolis the only type of modeling I could really get into was promotional modeling. I was with a local agency out there call Sorriso Models. I did have a great time with it. But out here in Maryland I am getting contacted by people to do more photo shoots then anything else. I have has some promotional work come my way as well.

SB: Good luck with your professional career. Whatever you do, I know that it will be a success.
