Gordo “El Atrevido”
Interviewed by: Angela Star

How did you get your start in the industry?
I have been in the music since the beginning of the 90s when it was called underground music.

Ok, but how did you get your start?
When this movement started I was there with some of the big names now, like Tempo, Divino, Baby Rasta y Gringo, Daddy Yankee and others… Me and some of the guys from school (like Tempo) used to freestyle in school and just start rapping against each other for fun until it got more serious with the movement. I remember that sometimes we used to rap in school and we got suspended because at the present time the governor from PR was Rosello. He mad every record store pull out our type of music and anyone who got caught with it or even singing it was in trouble in school.

Oh wow. That’s crazy.
The music has always been a part of my life. Yea there is a lot of history now when back then it was underground music.

What have you been up to lately as far as the music and making moves?
Well I got a chance to be heard on a project called El Megaton that came out of California last year and from that I got signed to label called SGR Records, which a couple of days ago united with Dement Music and El Cartel Records....on sept.15, 2007 Latinos Unidos drops out which has a cd and a dvd ....with some of the best rappers in the game on it....I'm also on the dvd with El Tio, Tony Dice and Franco El Gorilla from WY Records. I’m actually working on my album “El Comienzo”...which is dedicated to Tempo.....anything that this project picks up on my behalf will be sent to his mother ....Tempo already knows about everything and Tempo’s people do as well. I have big names collaborating on this project because its all from the heart.

Speaking of Tempo, since you have known him for so long, doesn't it make you upset to see everyone else jumping on the bandwagon and pretending he is their long lost best friend?
Yes I am, this is one of the reasons why I’m doing this ...you see there are many songs out there mentioning his name but let’s be real, what does that do for him? ....Nothing. Now on this project I’m putting in everything in my power to help his mother and family, Tempo along with his right hand Karolo told me that he doesn't need anything inside the prison because he is ok but to look out for his family no one has done that only a few people call his mother and ask how she is doing but then what happened to everyone else they are gone like he never existed. He knows how is real and I know who are the real ones that are their for him.

Yea I feel you.
I speak to his right hand everyday. We know everything that is going on out there and trust me he knows it too.

You have had a long career. What has been your favorite part?
Yes well being part of movement and having the support of the real people that believed in me. I have been on stage with many of the big names in the game.

How many cd’s do you have out as of right now?
Well my first project was being part of the Megaton last year, now Latinos Unidos on Sept, 15 2007 and I’m actually working on my first album “El Comienzo”. Oh ok.

When do you think the album will be done?
2008. It was supposed to be for this year but the love I have been getting with major names and we are taking it slow because it’s going to make history.

What can we expect to hear on your cd?
Real music from the heart, tribute to Tempo with many of the real friends he has.....he deserves it. He was a rising star at the moment and then everything happened to him. I’m giving him my respect because he made it possible for us to be where we are at in this movement.

So the Latinos Unidos and your album are dedicated to him?
No Latinos Unidos is a project bringing out the best of the best and my album “El Comienzo” is the one dedicated to him.

Oh ok. Got you. So what else do you have coming up that you want the people to know about?
Well just to remember that we are going to change the game and that their are many projects coming out from SGR Records/Dement Music and El Cartel that are going to be making big impacts in the movement soon.

How do you feel when you hear people say that Reggaeton has died?
Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if it was dead then why do we still have major hip hop artists and even rock stars trying to do music with us? That tells us a lot.

For sure. Do you have any advice to give to up and coming artists in the Reggaeton Genre?
Yes I do ....I always tell this to up coming artists ...if you have a dream don’t let anyone steal it from you, nothing comes easy but with hard work and dedication everything pays off just follow your heart.

Good Advice. Do you have anything to say to your fans?
Yes ...thanks for the love and support through all the years following every step I have made ....with out you guys we are nothing.

Do you have anything else that you would like to say?
If you believe in yourself and you set your mind to it there isn't anything you can't do.

How about any shout outs that you would like to give?
I want to thank god first for being my number one inspiration, my family for the love and support, to my manager Yuyo who since day one believed in me, to Frankie El Jefe also being their for me and Eli El Demente...my people from SGR Records / Dement Music, to my best friend Joey who is always there when I need him and his wife.....a special shout out to Tempo my brother we will see you soon out, to Karolo his right hand for supporting this project and to everyone that is collaborating on the album, Divino, Gemstar, WY Records, MC Ceja and everyone else on the project, Mastermind and Fredde my producers ....and a special thanks to my girl soon to be wife - I love you thanks for being by my side and to you and everyone in your staff.

Ok well thank you for giving us the opportunity to do this interview with you. We hope to hear more great things from you soon.
Thank you for being real with me.
